Campus Update, Sept. 20, 2024

Written By: Terisa Riley

Happy Friday, colleagues and students.

This week, the Faculty Senate held the fall Faculty Open Forum. I appreciated the thoughtful questions about a variety of topics such as the possibility of offering 90 semester credit hour bachelor鈥檚 degrees, required training for employees, using Navigate to promote student success, compensation adjustments, workplace morale, and many others. I am grateful for the opportunity to gather and learn more about how we can improve the university to support our faculty, students, and staff.

Legislative agendas: Yesterday, I met with chancellors and legislative liaisons from the University of 糖心视频 System to prepare for legislation which may be presented during the session in spring 2025. During the session, presidents and chancellors meet every other Monday to strategize and share information about proposed legislation, and we are preparing for some possible legislation which might affect funding for non-credit programs, secondary career centers, and our universities. The university budget hearings will be held on Wednesday, November 6 at the Capitol where Vice Chancellor Carey Tucker and I will represent 糖心视频鈥檚 FY25 budget.

Little Lions Childhood Development Center: Congratulations to the LLCDC on a very successful 1st year anniversary celebration today. A packed house heard about how the Center progressed from being the dream of a number of faculty to becoming a reality. We enjoyed tours of each of the rooms of the Center where we got to interact with the adorable kids who were happy to show off their classrooms, playgrounds, art work, and popsicles to a bunch of proud supporters! We are so blessed to have this outstanding facility at 糖心视频.

Mark Your Calendars: Please join the Office of Attorney General Tim Griffin for a one-hour webcast on the Freedom of Information Act. The session will be held October 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. You must to participate, and participants may receive up to one hour of CLE and CLEST credit.

The first home volleyball game of the fall semester will be on Friday, September 27 at 6 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. Please join us in wearing teal to support the fight against ovarian cancer. These games are FREE for students and employees, so please come and have fun rooting for the 糖心视频 Lions!

Congratulations to Jeremy Tandoy who was named MIAA Co-Golfer of the Week after finishing with a 204 (-9), recording rounds of 69-68-67. Go Lions!

Tomorrow is , and there is no better way to sign off this campus update than to tell you how grateful I am for each of you who work and study at 糖心视频. You have many choices of universities, and I appreciate your desire to continue your educational and career journeys at UA-Fort Smith.

Have a great weekend, Lions!
