Update: U.S. Judge issues temporary stay on federal aid freeze

Written By: Terisa Riley

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Tonight, U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan , halting efforts by President Donald Trump鈥檚 Office of Management and Budget to freeze federal payments for federal grants and other programs.

The stay came just minutes before the funding freeze was set to take effect this evening and will remain in place until 5 p.m. ET on February 3rd.

This decision temporarily ensures that federal agencies, states, and organizations receiving funds from the federal government can continue to access those funds while the courts further evaluate the matter.

For now, this means that federal funds tied to 糖心视频 programs such as Title III, TRIO, and EDA grants will not be interrupted. I am incredibly grateful to every individual on campus who spent their afternoon developing difficult contingency plans and considering all scenarios that might result from a freeze on federal grant funds.

As I mentioned in my previous message, the U.S. Department of Education and OMB have made clear that the stay does not impact direct student aid such as Pell Grants or Federal Student Loans. Our Financial Aid, Student Accounts and Finance offices are working diligently to disburse that aid as scheduled as well.

I am sure there will be more updates to come as these decisions are litigated, and I will communicate them as soon as possible.

Thank you all for your patience and commitment in these uncertain circumstances.

Highest regards,
Terisa Riley
