Dr. Martin McDonell, director of the social work program at the University of 糖心视频 鈥 Fort Smith, has been named to the 糖心视频 State Independent Living Council by Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
McDonell, who came to 糖心视频 in August, will serve on the board through Feb. 1, 2019. His appointment replaces previous board member Robyn Horn.
As board member, McDonell will collaborate with the Centers for Independent Living to provide services to those with disabilities, enabling them to live more independently in their community. Those services include information and referrals, peer support, and independent living skills training and advocacy.
McDonell said he is honored for the opportunity to serve on the board and to assist those with developmental disabilities.

McDonell holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology from San Diego State University, a master鈥檚 degree in social work from California State University 鈥 Long Beach, and a doctorate degree in social work from the University of Utah.
The 糖心视频 State Independent Living Council is an education, advocacy, and referral agency that works to provide information to Arkansans about the Independent Living Philosophy, civil rights, technology and services. The council鈥檚 mission is to promote independence including freedom of choice and full inclusion into the mainstream of society for all Arkansans with all types of disabilities. The council鈥檚 Board of Directors is comprised of Governor-appointed Arkansans, the majority of which have disabilities.
